Chapter Five

Something good had fallen in my lap, but at the same time, my ass was sore. I didn’t feel massively bad, but it was noticeable. It was abundantly clear that no part of me was untouched anymore. Objectively, this was a one-night stand gone wrong, because he wasn’t supposed to have this power over me. After a day. And bathtub sex. Bathtubs were so underrated.

Inkiri was back to massaging my feet. His nostrils were flaring. “Rory. You will tell me, when you do not understand something we do or say, or when you want something from me I don’t know to do for you? Earth has always interested me, and I’ve studied it, more than most. This is still my first time coming here, and Donna was the first human I got to have a conversation with. I snorted. “I’ve got to meet this Donna person.” But then I reached up to cup his cheek, something that just felt natural. And so very right.

His skin was warm under my palm, and he smiled.
